Hi everybody. I'm just letting you know that my orchestra is touring the northwest in March. We're going to Portland, some places in Washington, Seattle, maybe Vancouver? I don't know the exact places except for Portland. I also am clueless of where the performances are. But just a heads up, it's pretty exciting. But yeah, there's not much more to say.

Jetz:
Please do keep us informed as to the schedule as it gets closer to the date. I live about 4 hours' drive away, and my daughter goes to school in Tacoma, so it's likely that I could get over to see you (If the date doesn't conflict with St. Patrick's Day performances, that is, when my Irish band goes into overdrive for the whole month of March.)

Thanks! My birthday's the 26th (I will have reached the venerable elder and sage milestone of 55, if nothing breaks before then) and that would make a dandy birthday present to myself.

YES!
The Great Wall Youth Orchestra and Chorus will be in Spokane TONIGHT! I've been planning this for two months, and we'll be fine if IT WOULD ONLY QUIT SNOWING!!!
Yes, TWO INCHES on the ground this morning. It's been warming up to upper 40's each day, but this winter weather is being very reluctant to leave Spokane!
In any case, Spokane is greatly looking forward to you guys coming!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR US!!!!!!!! It was greatly appreciated. It was a great theater, and the most people did show up at that performance. Thank you for such a great night.

I'll be putting some pictures up on the forum later today (or maybe tomorrow.) GREAT CONCERT! What an outstanding orchestra you guys have there! And Eric (our very own Jetz) played an outstanding solo. He is their star erhu player (don't let him tell you otherwise.) Carlos

I am very sorry to have missed the Portland performances. I had hoped to break loose from work to get downtown, but unfortunately could not manage to get the time off. Good luck with the rest of your tour!
Best wishes,
David

Thanks for the pictures Carlos. Looks like a lot of fun. Reminds me of when I used to be in an orchestra.
Jetz, what happened to your mean looking Erhu???

my dragon erhu was at home. i decided it would look a little awkward with all these erhus and then a dragon head sticking out. the erhu here also sounds better, i call it my solo erhu. the tone is richer and louder.

Did this guy sing?

Charlie: Did he sing? Yes, indeed! He had all the right moves, too. Tyler Thompson is famous in this group for belting out some great jingju!!! He was singing a selection from Justice Bao. Don't forget that this orchestra started as an Oakland, California inner-city outreach program for kids. The population of central Oakland is predominantly black and Chinese. There was also a black girl who sang, but I didn't get a picture of that. I've got a short video clip of this: www.eaglelake1.org/GWYO/Tyler.movIt takes a few minutes to load. Sorry, I'm not totallly conversant with exporting video for web use. If I can, I'll figure out how to upload a compressed version that loads faster. Carlos

Sure - you guys had some parents there filming the whole time! Ask Ms. Chew. We didn't take any - I just had a few clips of Tyler and a warm-up and the guzheng player, all taken on my digital camera, so they're all short and the resolution is not very good.
