Hi, Does anyone play the Guanzi? I've got one but I can't even get a sound out of it. There probably something wrong with the reed.

Welcome to our forum, sanmenxia!
I don't play the guanzi, so my advice may be not worth much. I do know that double-reed instruments such as this can be very tricky to adjust as well as play. The reed needs to be constructed and trimmed properly, and like any reed needs to be moistened. I believe that serious guanzi players probably make or heavily customize their reeds to suit. In case you live around an Armenian population, you might have some luck finding a duduk player who can help.
Good luck.
Best wishes,
David

Hi David, Thanks for the welcome! I found this forum from a link on the erhu article on wikipedia. I've tried looking for a erhu forum in English before but couldn't find anything. Re the guanzi, it's probably not something you can teach yourself, you really need someone to show you.

Hi!
I played some guanzi, but mostly called it Pili cos its the easier version. Be basically soaked the first 3 insches of the ree in water for 2 mins, and play it with tension in your diaphragm.
Its really the hardest wind instrument!!
