I have a new project that could be musically challenging in a different way
I've adapted my Sanxian to play Western Jazz, I've recorded a very traditional sounding rendition of a Jia Peng Fang Erhu piece ("Silent Moon"), I've recorded an original piece that's more or less kinda Progressive Pop/Rock
Now I'm going to do Tchaikovsky piece, "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairies". Here's the trick, I don't want to do it as a Classical Russian symphony piece, I want to do it as a Traditional Chinese interpretation.
The challenge will be picking the tenor of the piece, the tone, the instrumentation and rendition, to sound like true traditional Chinese music. I've been playing Sanxian in an a traditional Chinese ensemble with Erhu, Guzheng, Pipa, etc...and I listen to that style of music often enough in my broad mix of listening...but can I arrange the piece to get the feel I am after
