Going in a completely opposite direction from my last effort. This is a song which started as an old idea for a riff and just sorta grew from there. That's why I called it "Memory" because the opening section is over a decade old in my head It's not at all a Traditional Chinese style, it uses a fairly straight pop/rock drum beat but is pretty eclectic approach in everything else. The only connection to traditional Chinese music is that I used both Sanxian for some melody, accompanying and solo/melody parts. It was pretty interesting trying to incorporate the Sanxian into this approach to music There are four bass parts on six string bass (Bass, Bass Chords, Bass Melody and Bass Solo) There are three synth parts, a soft atmosphere pad, a part for chord strings, and a Guzheng patch trying to emulate that style of instrument The sanxians are hard to pin down...I use both styles of sanxian, large and small, but I use several different track settings for different sounds in different parts and the sanxians come in and out in different places Two drum treatments, one I programmed and one I just grabbed a loop No guitars Listening back on this mix, there are some changes I want to make to smooth some parts out and at least one small sanxian part I want to re-track It's been a fun exploration on.soundcloud.com/WEzqmPS - I listened to Nini doing a life stream yesterday and she was playing Western metal on a Ruan through overdrive; I have not yet tried to treat my Sanxian as a metal guitar, but that could be interesting
