First night practicing with the Chinese musicians, although only two Guzheng and two Dizi. Played bass guitar until my Sanxian arrives. Working on the theme song from the Chinese animated movie "Big Fish and Begonia". Was able to slide in with the bass guitar, sometimes playing a bass role and sometimes doubling the melody* Very rewarding; had not played with other musicians in awhile; always feels good to hear something being created more than you could do yourself "大鱼“ (Big Fish) youtu.be/8ITYgvYIPlw*The original score is in Db but they are playing in G, the leader wrote a "number notation" chart, but I found it easier to use a score I found online to learn the melody in Db and then just slide the finger over to G. Once I khave the muslce memory for the part, shifting keys is just physically shifting to a new root and playing it the same

That's great you're playing with other musicians - keep it going!

Yes that's beautiful. It sounds like Endless Love? I played dizi and erhu duet with my teacher. I have the score somewhere. Do you have the above score?

Yeh, haven't played with other musicians in a few years...it's persoanlly rewarding to play a part in musicians together to create something greater than just yourself

I've played against backing tracks but playing with other people sounds so much rewarding.

I've done that. I've played solo gigs on just my bass (I play six string bass so I play chords in rhythm as well as have the range to play melodies). I write my own songs with multiple bass parts and then to play live, I decide what I want to play live and replace anything else with keyboard do there is only one live part and the rest is backing tracks Not Chinese music but here is the original home recording soundcloud.com/james-oconnor-746443934/1-02-hit-the-ground-runningand here's the live performance where I play lead but switch tones for a bass solo after the second refrain nd all the other 'bass' tracks are synths (I don't like playing bass over bass live, for some reason) youtu.be/6yoKFnsd_gE

Yah, that's my real name, thanks for the kind feedback. That's just something I wrote and recorded maybe a decade ago.
Second link is the same song with how I rebuild some of the tracks to play with backing tracks and one live line
Sorta hesitated to share it as it has nothing to do with Chinese music or instruments but just some musical performance ideas

.......... Sorta hesitated to share it as it has nothing to do with Chinese music or instruments but just some musical performance ideas After what you said, I went back and listened to it and glad that I did! I really liked the flow of the song/playing. I saw a couple (man&woman) play a great song with guitar and pipa a while back and it was very enjoyable having an integration of those two instruments (sort of east meets west Keep going, and good health to you.
