Hi to all. Being new here I have questions regarding scores. 1. I am looking for scources for a xiao method. Since I do neither speak nor read chinese I might have missed it somewhere in the net. 2. I am looking for solo pieces for the xiao (relaxing and/or meditation music) in western or jianpu notation. Again w/o chinese I have no chance to find. It would be great to find scores with at least the title translated into english.
Thanks for your kind help, jopa

Welcome to the forum, Jopa. There are some interesting xiao tutorials on Youtube that you might find useful. I assume that you have Googled on xiao tutoral, and variations of that. I doubt that there is a method in English, but it has been a while since I last looked. You might contact online vendors such as Eason Music in Singapore and Red Music Shop in China to see if they have any xiao methods or tune books. They may have such materials that are not listed on their websites, so it may be worthwhile to ask. Of course, whatever they come up with is going to be in Chinese. Even so, you might be able to get something useful from the exercises.
If you find tunes on Youtube that you would like to play on xiao, try to find the Chinese characters for the tune, and Google on that along with the characters for Jianpu. If the tune is popular at all, you are likely to find the score. Occasionally, I find an arrangement in staff notation, but that is rare in my experience.
I highly recommend checking out Winson Dongxiao of Taiwan. He is a master xiao maker and player, with some beautiful video performances on Facebook and Youtube. He communicates reasonably well in English, and apparently actively teaches. If I were serious about xiao, I expect I would be planning a trip to Taiwan. If nothing else, it would be excellent training to transcribe his videos for your own use.
Best wishes,
David

David, thanks for your answer. I will follow your advice. But since the time before X-Mas is full with standard (classical) music it will take some time. Once I find something I will report here. Joachim
