Hello! I've got some questions about erhu vibrato for you guys . . . My violin teacher has always told me when doing vibrato on the violin to only use one finger (one finger on the board doing vibrato, the others off the fingerboard) otherwise the vibrato will be unclear. Does the same apply to erhu vibrato? Also, what are some ways to improve my really fast, tense vibrato into a slow and rolling one? Thank you! (and happy late Thanksgiving)

I'm not enough of an expert on either instrument to make definitive comments- but many violin techniques have been applied to erhu - but some things are very traditional and Chinese. I am looking forward to specialists and their comments.

I think I saw an instructional video where they did use vibrato with 2 fingers held down. I can't find it on Youtube, it might have been on Tudou. The erhu player is Chen Chunyuan (陈春园).

This one is little finger vibrato with second and third fingers held down at the same time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_pDn2-3IO0Although when he's doing it slowly, it seems a bit jerky.
