I don't know where you can buy a pipa in T, your best bet would be on the net.
Pipa is a difficult instrument to learn. A lot of finger techniques are very hard, like 'lun' which I haven't got the hang of. You will need a teacher and lots of practice to get to a good standard of play.

The best instrument to learn is the one you like, the one you like to listen to the most. Anyway there are different levels of playing, eg soloist, playing in a small group picking out the tune. So don't worry about difficulty. Or you could try the guzheng ;D

You might have to copy and paste the above link onto the address bar for it to work... (somehow, this forum takes ' : ' as a separate entity)

www.maytune.com is a music studio in Toronto. They do erhu, guzheng and pipa, may some of the flutes. Of the pipas I have seen (have) you may want to stay away from the eBay specials. Some of the instruments are way too light. Good pipas seem to be heavy maybe 10# and more. The smaller student models should be the same. CAMCSF, Cadenza, Chinese Culture and Melody of China should be good sources. I haven't found any books in english but you might consider an eBay vendor "musicpatio". They sell a guzheng tutorial that has a printed english translation that helps a lot. Maybe they can do the same for pipa.
