Do any of you have information on the strings for nanyin pipa (nanguan pipa, amoy pipa, etc.)?
The book tuning is DGAD. I've heard that they often use nylon strings, but am not sure.
Thanks!

Sorry,I don't know about nanyin pipa. The most knowledgeable person I know about pipa in general is Dr. Samuel Wong. He has a website, and is frequently on Facebook. Let me know if you want to contact him, and need help getting through.
I wonder if the nanyin pipa is much like the Vietnamese version of the pear-shaped lute: dan ty ba. The dan ty ba does use nylon strings.
Best wishes,
David

Best wishes, David I've heard of Dr. Wong, even read some of his works. I'll try to contact him. There are some similarities with the Dan Ty Ba: Older non chromatic fretting Not using modern composite pipa strings Not using the plastic fingernails. The nanyin pipa is still held more like it was in the Tang dynasty too, more like a guitar rather than upright.
