Hi, I'm a student at Harvard who has been learning the guqin for over a year. Recently I've been training very hard to become performance-worthy in the traditional style, but I have a particular interest in experimental music. My first concert, for instance, was with a Carnatic (South Indian classical) violinist, and I am very eager to meet other [non-western] classical musicians who are interested in fusion or the development of new repertoire in a serious classical spirit.
The pipa, of course, has a serious classical tradition all its own, and I would especially look forward to performing traditional and not-so-traditional combinations with a pipa player in the Boston area. We're talking amateur venues for the near future. I have many allies at Harvard (which translates to many performance opportunities) and am connected through Shin-yi Yang to the Boston Chinese musical world. Anyone interested in playing around (!!), post here or talk to me at scwalker@fas.harvard.edu
