Well, I think Hemeidi is one of the low quality brand from Yangzhou though. Just be cautious. Guzheng, like all other instruments, might look similar but sound very different in quality. As for the construction, all sorts of problems can occur on guzheng. e.g. back yueshan brdige falling off, frame detaching from the body, warping and cracking of the soundboard due to insufficient drying... tuning pins can not hold the tension of the strings.... Other than those, I think the first problems one will encounter are very low quality bridges and strings that make the instrument basically unplayable.
That's why it's probably better to buy from name brands.

Hello Carol,
in violin world, we have some ways on upgrading low~priced violins.
examples are
1. upgrading to more expensive strings (dominant or pirastro brand)
2. changing bridges to brand Aubert because some low price violin use certain type of wood rather than maple wood for the bridge.
in guzheng world, are there any steps or recommendations to upgrade an existing low~priced guzheng?

Well, as long as the basic construction is ok. I mean if the guzheng is constructed with descent materials, and the main problem is just the sound quality, then you can make the sound better by upgrading the bridges and the strings. If it is poorly made, then there are problems other than the sound quality.
