So while walking up some stairs with my pipa in its bag, I tripped and one of the back tuning pegs hit the edge of the stair and snapped. There's just a little piece left lodged inside the center neck area where the string is wound. Does anyone know any distributors or websites where I could possibly purchase a set of pegs?

I am sorry to hear of your mishap. The soft bags are lighter and easier to store, but they don't protect the instrument as well as a hard case. I suggest contacting Eason Music. Several years ago, I bought a used pipa from them that had been competently repaired. Maybe if you can supply photos, the proprieter Sung Wah can help you get the necessary parts.
Best wishes,
David

I saw some on Fleabay a couple days back. Was looking for western violin pegs and a couple sellers of the pipa pegs popped up.
The Eston suggestion is probably better but....

Good idea. I just checked on Ebay, and there are two listings for pipa pegs.
Best wishes,

There seems to only be one listing now, and those pegs don't look too sturdy at all. Tang Sung has yet to get back to me about pegs (not to mention about a no-subtitle vcd that I bought which was listed as subtitled)...

There's a couple. Type the phrases below into the ebay search, to see them.
I agree that the "Free Shiping..." ones don't look the best (if that's the ones you saw) but the ebony ones look good....although not sure why all the photos of the ehru in the pegs listing, advertizing maybe???. I'd ask about that and to see a few more photos if he has them, before I plunked down my cash but by his feedback I'd say he's a reliable seller.

Yea, wonderin why he has erhu photos (I'm not sure if pipa pegs can be used for erhu and vice-versa, though that would be nice). Says it's $15 per peg/ but will give a discount off if one chooses to buy multiple. That is a bit of money though. Too bad they aren't a little cheaper.
Thanks for the links though.

Do you think the peg that broke is fixable? If you post a photo with the two pieces close together (not quite touching) I might be able to tell. If so I should be able to help you out depending on where you are...(I'm a luthier in real life). If it can be fixed, that just might get you through until you can find what you want.
PM me with the photo if you prefer.

It's a possibility it might be fixable, but I tried piecing the two together with super glue (which it said works for wood as well), but it did not hold. One of the reasons might have been is that there are too many wood fragments missing from the breakage for the glue to be effective. Maybe an adhesive filler would work... not sure. Attachments:

Thanks Joe.
Crazy/Super/Cynoacrylate glue won't work in this situation but for sure that is fixable. It would need to be properly glued and possibly a wooden pin through the two pieces for support. It would be a temporary fix although there's a good chance it would last a long time.
At least that's how I would fix it. I do live on the other side of the country from you so it would need to be shipped. But you might feel more comfortable with a local luthier. Pm me if you want some names in your area. I think I know a couple I'd trust.

I ended up purchasing some new pegs, though they it was fairly difficult to find a seller. Got them yesterday, but they are a little bigger on the thinner part so...I will need to take them to a shop to have them sized down. So much trouble.

No kidding! Being an instrument maker I sometimes forget how much of a problem it is for folks who don't have the opportunity to do the repairs themselves.
Anyways, good for you. You'll be up and playing in no time.
