Hi there! Is anyone also a subscriber to the www.guqin.net website? I came across it just the other day it too looks like an interesting site for guqin players (not that I am leaving you guys!). However, I seem to be experiencing a problem when registering. If you are already a subscriber, can you please tell me whether one also needed to have an email account with yahoo.com.cn in order to successfully register for the website? Anyway this was just one reason for the problem that I could think of. I don't think I'll subscribe to it if it means that I'd have to become a yahoo.com.cn email subscriber, too.

Yes, it's a Chinese site. I wanted to give up trying to subscribe, but it just seemed so tempting because the discussions look so interesting and relevant to us guqin players.

Thanks for trying anyway, syburn. I am sensing that no-one else has looked at this website, whatever the reason.

Well I haven't been able to see the details of any of the discussions because I'd have needed to be given access in order to see those. But the subjects of the discussions all seem quite interesting and useful, and a bit like an extension of this forum. For example, the history of the different schools of guqin playing, discussion on guqin learner's experiences, what makes an ideal guqin, etc. etc. I know there are other websites out there dedicated to the guqin - some also very good - and I think I have a good coverage of the most interesting and useful websites, except www.guqin.net which also seems reasonably informative. I just wanted to give myself as much exposure to the happenings and the latest etc. to do with the guqin as possible, that's all.

From what I could see, I did all the right things for the registration - including this question that they ask - but still it wasn't successful. Maybe what they wanted was for me to get a yahoo.com.cn email account (which I don't particularly want to get)? Do you have a yahoo.com.cn email account that you have and provided for the registration, syburn? Yes legend has it that Yu Boya broke his qin for Zhong Ziqi because when the latter died, Yu believed that he had lost his guqin "soulmate" for good and there was no point continuing to play the qin. Apparently the grieving and tearful Yu played his last tune in front of Zhong's grave and then smashed his qin into bits, swearing never to play the qin again (and he never did). So syburn, have you had the chance to check out whether the www.guqin.net website's any good? Just curious...

Well I don't have a hotmail account so maybe the system just doesn't like me! (I have an email account with a private foreign internet provider.) Pity.
