Next month I'm starting Liuqin tuition. I understand that the fingering for a zhongruan is similar.
Are there any liuqin/zhongruan players out there who can enlighten me?
(Self taught) guitar players might also find the liuqin/zhongruan easier to pick up as is with the oud which I am also intetested in.

With the tourist exchange rate so dire, gone are the days when one could pick up a cheap instrument from HK- so says xindi

They look so nice together, with all the different finishes, don't they.
Interesting specialist instruments like a liuqin/zhongruan/rosewood dizi are much harder to find. China seems to have more choice than HK, but then again, HK is tiny in size lol.
You can get cheap guitars - loads - probably poorly made. Everyone plays the guitar these days, even people who can't play them.
Back on topic ... is the zhongruan mostly plucked without chord variations? I was at a concert and it was definitely strummed. I saw it being played with a single plectrum (less frenetically) by a street busker. I can't say how or if it is supposed to be played with the pipa fingering.... the string pitches confuse me, since I've got used to pipa string pitches but I suppose it's no different than playing a different key of dizi and then trying a xiao?

With a bit of help from my teacher I managed to play Mo Li Hua. Now to make it sound professional....

This I got to hear!
That's progress if you can do play that so quickly!
I think I've just worked out the skeleton structure to the pipa music of "Fur Elise" by accident...
