You are hearing a guqin (qin) and xiao. The xiao is an end-blown flute similar in concept to a shakuhachi, the Japanese end-blown flute. The paring of guqin and xiao is quite popular and lovely. Best wishes, David

I can't hear no xiao/flute (actually, never heard a qin and xiao GLS duet, it's meant to be qin solo). Are you confusing the harmonic bits with the sound of a flute?

The YQWD sounds better than the GLS one; the playing and rhythm is much more smoother.

Hah, the GLS is by Wang Huade, one of my favorite "weird/undiscovered masters". He's an old guy from Sichuan who plays in the most drunken, random, but oddly focused and spiritual fashion. A perfect embodiment of the qin's commitment to individualism and exploration "fang wai" (outside the square).
