Welcome to the forum, chinoisepdx, and thanks for the notice. Dr. Yang is my teacher, friend, and an outstanding musician. I highly recommend any chance to hear him perform.
Dr. Yang also frequently performs on Sunday afternoons at the Portland Chinese Garden. Sometimes I join in as well, although it has been a while. There will be more ensemble events in January and February, and I will try to remember to post notices.
Best wishes,
David

Last weekend, Dr. Yang was going out-of-town, and was not sure he would be back in time, so I played at the Portland Chinese Garden. I played erhu and a little dan bau alone for about 1.5 hours, before Dr. Yang showed up and we made up an erhu duo.
For a few tunes I played dan bau while he played erhu. Some of the tunes I had never played before on dan bau (duxianqin/monochord), so it was a bit of fire-walking, but I got through it okay. I have played Liu San Jie, Walking the Camel, Parting at the Yang Pass, and Kongding Love Song on dan bau. I will have to play around with some more tunes so I don't get caught trying them out for the first time in public.
I am working on Yu Bei Ballad now, but it will be a while before it is ready for performance. It is sure a joy to play though.
Best wishes,
David
