Great pic, Vi An! My compliments to the photographer.
I really need to find a place to post some pics. My plans to set up a dan bau webpage seem always to be just in the offing.
Best wishes,
David

Ahhh yes hahahahaaa -- Thank you for thinking of me Steve! I have been looking at these gold laqured babies for the past few days now <g>. Unfortunately I am not that wealthy or they would ALREADY be in my pocession and I would be using them for my koto right away!
Isn't it beautiful? Now I tell 'ya that is deep passion and splendid attention to major detail, I give it to the Japanese for that -- the major perfectionists of the old world. Mind-you they do over package products and I'm not very happy about that one at all, because when I have to go through a box and then two layers of plastic/tin wrap just to get into my yummy wassabi peas, something is dreadfully wrong with that!!!
*Hahahahaa*
Those bridges discussed above, need to be USED right now -- they do not belong in a "collection" or private viewing only!
Ok lets start to see some pics of your gu zhengs! The ones which make you proud ma ma's and pa pa's out there show it up!
Peace,
Vi An.

Don't anyone gasp! No I do not leave my dear instruments EVER by the heater like that. For light to take the photos, I needed to move the instrument there because its my huge window.. I ALWAYS ALWAYS, place my instruments back into its case each time I am done with them.
Enjoy,
Vi An.
*Where is everyone these days, not a post on this guzheng section regarding new information; spooooky..

*Giggles and cries, giggles and cries*
WHAT!?!?!?!?!!
It worked earlier *sobs*. Now not even my profile picture shows. Internet is so awekward! *Hangs head down*. Plus I'm using idiot geocities. I really really need to get a more reliable domain.. Then I'll have to rebuild it all from scratch again. *Sigh*.

Its my geocities bandwidth problem. Too many people visit at any given time causes a melt down. Sorry to anyone experiencing this most annoying circumstance.. Vi An.

Ok, it took some time, but finally here they are: Pictures of my guzhengs. The first one is small, only 47" (120 cm) long. It was my first guzheng and has its own amazing history :-) When I decided to learn how to play guzheng I had to make a decision: Buy a good guzheng and spend a whole lot of money and take the risk that I'd probably give up, or buy a cheap one and and prepare that I later have to spend additional money to buy a better instrument. I was short of money at that time so I decided to start with a cheap one. I wasn't able to find one in Germany, so I watched out on ebay. I found several good ones, but every time I ran into the same problem: A full size guzheng is oversized and cannot be shipped via standard shipping services and shipping via UPS or FedEx is very expensive. Finally I came across this tiny one on eBay. The seller bought it at a musicstore in Shanghai and took it home - to Sydney, Australia (!), from where he offered it on eBay. The size of 120 cm is exactly the maximum length our German postal service accepts, so I decided to bid and won it. Australian shipping services are a dream, it only cost me $80 to have it shipped to my door. This little guzheng has seen a lot of the world: It came from Shanghai/China, went to Sydney/Australia and finally arrived in Bonn/Germany. Although I'm not satisfied with it anymore, I keep it because it's convenient to carry around and it is cheap. No need to get a heart attack every time it gets a nick or dent :-)

Here's my second guzheng, the one and only perfect, completely satisfying guzheng for me at this time :-) I guess you've seen it before :-) It's the 26-string Zhuque (Scarlet Bird) sandalwood guzheng which has been for sale on eBay several months ago. I managed to get my hands on it. All my thanks and all my love go to my partner who gave it to me in February as a birthday present. I play it almost every day and I can approve everything good that has been said about this brand before. The sound is full and resonant yet clear, the basses are deep and satisfying, the range is extraordinarily smooth. More traditional or chinese players may claim that the higher notes are not high enough, but to my western ear it sounds perfect. It is not as sharp and sweet as a Yangzhou guzheng but deeper, soft and round. And it is loud. It's like playing on a grand piano.

How many "sound posts" or bracings did you think I found inside the sound whole of the Scarlet Bird guzheng???
1? 2? 3?
I found non! WOW! This proves that the instrument was made amazingly. Not "overly engineered" and the sound production is absolutely the biggest I have heard yet!
I'm so impressed beyond my wildest dreams!

You can view all my pictures nice and clear here: guzheng1improviser.blogspot.com/I don't understand what is going on. When I post pictures on here and preview my post, everything seems to be working and then I come back a few days later to check on updates and new messages -- the images are broken? I have no clue why..
