Thanks for your suggestion ckoo. Do you currently have diagrams of the different positions of different keys?
Carlos regarding you suggestion, I will get it out in 6 months time. But I'm still shy so I'll get someone else for the demonstrations.
By the way have you received your piece of cloth and the red note from paypal?

Thanks Carlos for the guitar tip. For a beginner like myself, learning the positions is only part of the task, I actually don't know what a E Major scale, for examaple, is supposed to sound like . Sung Wah, I'm just starting and haven't got any books or diagrams yet. Where can I get the diagrams you mentioned? I also welcome any recommendations for good beginner Erhu books. BTW, I've bought the Liu Tian Hua Erhu book from you and am waiting for it to arrive. I hope the book is suitable for beginners.

ckoo: Yeah - if you can get a guitar, capo up to the fifth or seventh fret and you can start playing around with "three blind mice" on one string to get a feel for where your fingers go. The capoed position will approximate the erhu scale length, so when you then pick up the erhu your fingers will feel "right" going to the "right" place. A good book for beginners (and intermediate players,) although in Chinese: Very clear, written in jianpu music, lots of basics. Available in the US (don't know where you are...) at Clarion Music in San Francisco: www.clarionmusic.com/Go to their site and navigate through the menus to Asian music instruction. This book also has an optional VCD, also at Clarion Music, which demonstrates many of the initial lessons. It's also in Chinese, but whether or not you speak or study, it's still very much worth seeing this guy demonstrate technique. Then there's the Chen Jie Bing website as well as Song's excellent demos. Carlos PS: Song - I DID receive the package, thanks tons. I'm fishing around my desk trying to find my paypal password. I'll have to eat my pride and ask my wife who seems to remember EVERYTHING. I will have that done by end of day today. I'll let you know about my experiments with installing a new jinghu head. Lots of free time coming up with Christmas break, everyone off work and school, etc. Carlos

Thanks Carlos for the info, I'm in Adelaide Australia. I have seen Chen Jie Bing's and Song's videos. It is excellent these people would take the time and effort to provide us with these very well prepared demos. I was very thankful and impressed with Song's video that I bought a book and VCD from him to show my appreciation and support. Unfortunately, I bought my Erhu before discovering this forum and places like Eason, Cadenza.

Unfortunately, I bought my Erhu before discovering this forum and places like Eason, Cadenza. Oh, don't worry about THAT! If you've truly been bitten by the erhu bug there are at least a couple of more erhus in your future, as well as a zhonghu, gaohu, er quan erhu, jinghu, etc. LOTS of opportunities to buy things from our friends. By the way, which book did you buy and how do you like it? I'm always looking at teaching resources.... Carlos

I'll see what I can regarding the left hand positions of various scales. There should be some diagrams lying around...... Sung Wah
