hey i have a china national traditional orchestra vcd...and i noticed that they use a different cello and double bass than modern orchestras...i'm talking about the shape of it, the china national traditional orchestra's cello and double bass are circular instead of a regular cello shape. are they custom designed?

Best wishes, David no it doesn't look like a huqin, but it look like a modern day cello and double bass, but its round like a circle

Thats one of the WORST instruments China ever created, just to Avoid using Cello and basses. Its called a LA RUan (pulled ruan)
it sounds really horrid. Hollow and light.
