hmm...
not really. According to most physics ppl, its stupid to actually tranmit vibration over an L-shaped stick to the snake skin. Nevertheless, if the skin is of good quality, the pizzicato sounds rather full and padded.
The bowing notes are not nice.
I have a Huqin quartet, and we have to use GaoHU, ErHU ZhongHU and geHU

I have seen one in a shop, from a playing point of view, it's basically a cello with snake skin on its side. And it does seem to use use up quite a lot of snake skin.
