Qianjin - string vs brass
Just changed my qianjin from a mechanical brass one to a traditional string one. How on earth does one tune it? Every time I adjust one string the other goes out. Never had this trouble with the old one.
The sound of the instrument is slightly clearer with the string type qianjin, but not enough to warrant the additional problems with tuning.
I have never used the traditional style qianjin before, having had a series of instruments over the years all with brass qianjins.

I have only ever used qianjin cord, but have not had trouble tuning. Could the qianjin you tied be too loose?
The distance to the qianjin from the resonator, and the distance between the strings and neck all matter a lot. The material used for the qianjin is also a factor. I use qianjin string from Eason, even though it is possible to use cheaper options.
Could you post a photo of your problematic qianjin?
Best wishes,
David

Thanks David - I think I may have followed a poor set of instructions for tying the QianJin. I have now looked at Eason's video and seen that they do it differently. When I get the instrument out next week I will have another go and see if its any better.

Yes - its a bit better, but still not as easy to tune as with the brass qianjin.
