Hi all!
I'm still very, very new to bamboo flutes but I've been having a lot of fun with the dizi. Over the past few days I've been playing along to 彌度山歌 Midu Mountain Song by 李泰祥 (poorly ofc, but I'm very slowly getting there ). What kind of music do you like to play?

Hey! What I was working on (before I kind of stopped altogether lol) was 葬花吟 from the '87 Dream of Red Mansions. Mine never sounded as good as in the video, but one can always dream The first piece I tried was, I think, 羨云. I forget exactly where that's from (maybe a donghua? It has a bunch of adaptations and I lose track of which) but it helped that it was very slow, since I couldn't remember fingering that well!

AH thank you for the links! I've actually watched the donghua that 羨云 is from and I really love the soundtrack

Ahaha I thought there was a chance when you mentioned guqin and dizi! I also sometimes just look up sheet music for random songs and try them out. There was one time i tried to play All Star by Smash Mouth and that was a mess lol

AHA, I can imagine! All Star as a song does kind of slap to be fair 😜
It was the first time I'd heard either of those instruments and was just mesmerised! It also helps that every adaption has a fantastic soundtrack so each time I watched/listened to a new one, there was more music to get lost in. I wonder if the upcoming Q version will give us new arrangements?
I play by ear mostly, but I also found this YouTube channel which has loads of sheet music (both numbered and stave) for the donghua and drama soundtracks !

I play mostly simple songs for practice like 蓝花花
Tried 羡云 too, I like a lot of songs from the donghua and other adaptations. Also trying to learn 左手指月 it's a song from a drama. That channel is amazing, has a lot of popular songs with notations.
