Hi! I've been guest-lurking here for about two weeks and now I'll be member-lurking (probably). I have no experience playing an instrument besides banging on a piano years ago, but because of some Jae Meng videos (especially this cover of a Vocaloid song about Sun Quan) and a $5 coupon on eBay, I bought a dirt cheap dizi on a whim (and also because coupons. I'm pretty sure that centuries from now, someone just has to say "coupons" near my grave and I'll resurrect on the spot). The combination of my inability to play and the dubious quality of my dizi means that most of my notes sound like slightly pitched wheezes; I'm still not really able to get half the notes at all (almost the whole upper octave is unreachable for me). But, I'm thinking about what to buy next as a replacement -- in school and I do a little part-time work but my parents still question me about every purchase over $30. Anyway, thanks for letting me join here! Looking forward to lurking and learning!

Welcome. It’s pretty slow here. But definitely worth browsing the old posts. I’m also a complete novice with an interest in traditional music. I’m going to have a go at the xiao when life allows.

Thanks! And yeah, I've been looking at the old posts a lot recently for random questions I've had. Good luck on the xiao and hope you get some time to practice on it!
