Hi all, I have practiced erhu for one year, but the high tone gave ear aches to me, so I chose zhonghu due to the lower tone. I have been playing zhonghu for about one year also.
I have begun to incorporate the zhonghu into my original music. Here is a clip.
How does this sound? To me, I am obviously out of tune in some spots. Also, the sound is a little bit scratchy at times. Does that go away with practice, or is this normal for the zhonghu?
Thank you for your feedback -Joe

Your clip sounds good, Joe. I enjoyed it. You have good musical instincts.
Best wishes,
David

That's impressive Joe. Are you self taught and did you also play the piano backing track?

Thank you guys Yes Ed. For zhonghu/erhu, I have practice myself for 30-60 minutes every day for two years. I also record and listen to the practice to hear how to improve the sound. For the piano, it has been ~8 years. Glad to know I don't sound bad. I listen to erhu and zhonghu music, and thought the tone was not going in the right direction.

Haha, I bought a $70 violin many years ago and tried to learn it, but the bridge snapped after about an hour. Then I bought a $100 Dunhuang student erhu from amazon two years ago, and the bridge did not snap after an hour If I had spent $30 more on that violin...haha

I met a violin teacher who after a couple of erhu lessons from my teacher, took to the erhu like a duck to water. I would imagine it's incredibly difficult to self teach inasmuch you have no one to guide you or motivate you. Congratulations.
