So, my erhu teacher (I actually have one of those now, woo) has tasked me the attached piece of music to practice playing in another key. (Before last week I thought that 1=G meant that I had to retune the strings ) My understanding (from Wikipedia) is that I should play a "7" as C-natural instead of sharp, and everything else is the same as what I'm used to with D-major. Is this correct? Also there are now dots below the notes, I believe meaning a lower octave, but how can I play any lower? *Tries down-tuning again* So I assume the system has changed for some reason, and now a 5_no_dot is A5 and 5_dot_below is A4, right? (also, why?) So I should play: A4 B4 | C4 D5 | E5 D5 | C4 B4 ? And what about the characters above the notes? Does "内" mean that I should play everything on the inner string until instructed otherwise on the next line, or just that one note? And what do the numbers "〇一二三四" represent here? I would ask my teacher but there is a language barrier that makes communication difficult, so I want to prepare in advance of next lesson. Thanks for any insight Attachments:

The opens strings will have different numbers for different keys, based on the location of where D or A on that scale. It would be redundant to retune the strings every time you are changing the key of a piece. I’ve posted a chart on reading jianpu. There are many other posts on this forum on jianpu too. 内 means the inner string 外 means the outer string 〇=open strings 一=1st finger 二=2nd finger 三=3rd finger 四=4th finger.
