大家好, 请允许我自我介绍 一下, 我叫 理查德, 认识 您们很高兴。 Hello everyone I'm Richard, just a brief introduction. My erhu journey started a few years ago when my Mandarin teacher played one day in class. I was mesmerised, she let me have a go (strangled cat of course) but I was hooked. My first erhu I bought from eBay, aah! No strings or Qiān jin!! So my first lesson was how to string it and tie a Qiān jin. Without the wonderful www.easonmusicstore.com resources I would have been stumped. Anyway I muddled through and the next semester just about managed to play Scarborough fair in class. I had such a wonderful experience buying my current erhu, I spent a morning trying different ones, in the end it was a Beijing style rosewood one that was right for me. www.dyerhu.com their shop is in Taipei (quite hard to find as it's on the tenth floor of an office block!) They are really approachable and can speak some English. Also of note they have a very good collection of erhu books (some in English). I am very lucky as my work takes me to China quite often. So I get to see and hear alot of erhu. Have a wonder round any public park there and you'll get a free lesson just by observing local players. I also joined www.erhulessons.com Ling Peng is a great teacher, I think it is definitely worth paying to unlock the full lessons. I'll close with a couple of quotes from some truly inspirational erhu people. "The more you play it the better it sounds!" 卢嘉宝 Lui Jiabao my Mandarin teacher. Haha but she's right! "Your left hand knows what to do, concentrate on your bowing" an old master erhu maker at Lu Lin Sheng factory in Wuxi.

Good luck with your exam.
