Hi everyone...so I got an erhu recently and I’m still very new and DEFINITELY a beginner. I was being dumb and while I tried to tune the D string I was actually using the A string peg...I kept tuning and was like “Why isn’t it tuning?” and then I realized too late and the A string came right off the peg.
Is is there a way to reattach the current A string onto the peg, or should I attach a new string? Also, HOW DO I DO THAT?
Thanks for the help, Mary

Did the string snap when you tuned it, or did it just come off? If it snapped, replace the string. Make sure not to make weird mistakes like I did. I was playing with the tuning too much when both strings snapped the same day... As long as the string is in good condition, simply reinstall the string There's a video on how u do dat youtube.com/watch?v=NWEEQisFuJkwww.learnerhu.com/node/148

....are both strings supposed to be in the qianjin? I thought it was just the A string. Also, the A string is called the outer string, right? Thanks so much for the help by the way!

Yes, both strings go in the qianjin. A string is outer string, D string is inner. Remember it like this: the A string is more away from your body, so it faces the outside.

Also, make sure that the nut(qianjin) is tied tightly so that there is an even clean sound. The qianjin might become loose over time or if the strong loosens or falls off. youtube.com/watch?v=SS6bs8UMutg Also make sure the string is angled at the nut from the peg to the base. www.easonmusicschool.com/troubleshooting-erhu-scratchy-open-strings/Also also remember that the inside string is turned form the peg away from you, and that the outside string is turned towards you. That way the strings don't tangle and make funny sounds. Also also also be careful when tuning the strings because the little bit of string that come off the other side of the peg might cut you. Also also also also good luck ) Edit: add rosin powder(from soundbox lol), chalk, or wax to the pegs to prevent slipping
