Can anyone tell me what the gauges should be? Specifically #7, which I broke yesterday and need a replacement for. I have a new set coming in the mail, but I have some rolls of high quality instrument wire which I would like to utiilize in the meantime before it arrives.

I checked my spare strings, but I don't see a gauge indicated on the package in a language I understand. You might just use a replacement that is between strings #6 and #8. I don't know what sort of string might require a dangerous amount of tension to bring it up to pitch, so be careful. Zither strings might be okay, but I bet piano wire would not be a good idea. You might check with the vendor of your guzheng, or replacement string order for advice. My expert is Carol Chang at Sound of China.
Best wishes,
David
