i didn't realise Obama was a leftie Omg! You're right! I didn't even realize he was holding the erhu with his right hand! Wait, is this even a possible way for the erhu to be played? I thought that whether you are a leftie or rightie doesn't matter in instruments?

I thought that whether you are a leftie or rightie doesn't matter in instruments? If you are a leftie, you can still play the erhu by changing the string positions, the way the strings spool off the pegs, and if the bridge string slots are different sizes, you can just rotate that around. You may have to extend the bow guard to cover the unprotected side. Regards, paul...

I wonder if most lefties do this with their instruments . . . I have never seen something like this before so maybe some people just adapt to using their right hand for the bow? I have no idea, but thank you for this response, Paulv!
