Hi,
As a new member I have been looking at the past activity on the forum and am wondering why the level of activity seems down compared to the past.
Is there another more active Chinese music forum now?

The activity comes and goes. There are some Chinese music groups on Facebook. That's probably the best place for a guqin fan. There is a handful of us who have hung around here for a long time, answering questions as best we can from people new to Chinese music and instruments.I try to make sure that everyone gets a response, but sometimes I get busy or don't have answers myself.
Best wishes,
David

I certainly appreciate your help on this forum.
Thanks for the tips....I am not on Facebook, though.

I think a lot of people try to self-teach, it's not impossible but requires dedication and a reason to practise. We often get beginner's questions and I suspect without a teacher they give up.
I have a beautiful liuqin and zhongruan but since my teacher (the only one in the UK) returned to Taiwan it has fallen by the wayside and I concentrate now on my erhu, classical guitar and dizi.

I am fortunate to get my fix of Chinese music in person. I don't take erhu lessons any more, but my teacher has an ensemble and frequently invites me to play along at gigs. We have an event coming up next Wednesday at the Lan Su Chinese Garden in downtown Portland, Oregon. I spent part of this evening playing some tunes on dizi, along with my teacher on erhu and a young woman on guzheng. We had a lot of fun with the music, and even had an audience. There were also about a half dozen people visiting from China, and staying with my teacher. Last month there was a Chinese opera troupe from Shanghai in town, and some of them stayed at my teacher's home. Of course, it was also a good gathering place for everyone. We had a lot of good food and music.
I am playing Bach and Pachelbel on flute for a wedding tomorrow, so I am going to bed now to get some sleep. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Best wishes,
David
