I like the reedy sound of the Bawu created by that metal reed but from my understanding it is a limited instrument when it comes to playing in different keys and octaves, so I wondered if I could fit a Bawu mouthpiece for the sound and the Xiao body for an extended range, the detachable models I've seen on ebay seem like they could fit with a little gerrymandering here and there, so if I go ahead with this what am I to expect if I buy both instruments in the same key of G would it still have the same fingering of a 8 hole Xiao or do I have a horrible understanding on how flutes work, and if you know of a better option for a chromatic Bawu please do let me know?
Thank you

That would be a great pairing! I don't know if the vertical Bawu's mouthpiece could provide enough juice to power a Xiao up and down 2 octaves or so. The Bawu's range is much more limited than a Xiao's. Now, sorry to be such a nitpicker, but the word you want is Jerry-rigging, not Gerrymandering.
