Has anyone purchased from ecoerhu.com or know anyone that did? Could you share the experience with me, if so?

Oh, oops. I should've deleted this post, but I forgot I ever made it. I did buy from them - a purple sandalwood erhu.Their customer service is excellent. They called me personally when I had a concern.

It might also help future buyers searching information about ecoerhu. Thank you.

I have an eco-erhu but not from the above vendor. It great to take across borders, (I'm currently working in Greece) and for most part sounds very similar to the real thing.

Ed, is yours from Eason? i wonder if the eco erhus they sell are the same ones produced by Eco Erhu/Bamboo Grove, or if there is indeed another manufacturer of them. In the distant future, I'd love to get a Shaoqin erhu with synethic skin, but I don't know that that would even be possible.
Zamaik, i am happy with it, but then it is my first erhu and i have nothing to compare it to. i'm also an extreme novice player trying to teach myself to play, and well, someone more qualified would need to give you their opinion haha. They do have videos of each erhu in action so you can compare the sound quality. I get decent sound with even the most ungodly high of positions, and with my inexperienced ear, and terrible skill, i believe everything sounds as it should. being able to select your own design for the skin is also very nice, and what i have selected suits my aesthetic very well. I'm very curious about their multi-tuning instrument, which I would like to buy eventually.

Hi Gusty, Yes my eco erhu is from Eason and I have also have an equan erhu from Bamboo Grove. I have no idea if the two vendors sell the same/similar erhus.
I would strongly advise you getting professional tuition. If you don't have access to a tutor Eason offers on-line tuition. There's only so much you can teach yourself, develop bad habits, get into a rut and lose interest.
When my liuqin teacher returned to Taiwan I lost the motivation to continue, though I plan to have on-line lessons with Eason... one day.

Ed, it would be interesring to know if there are multiple manufacturers, as it's something I've long wondered.
I am using the english erhu book and using many videos as a guide. I hoped to take just one or two in-person lessons for me to really build off of, but couldn't find a teacher. At the moment, regular lessons are outside my budget, but I plan to take them via skype as soon as I can. I've been extremely diligent about things like posture and how to hold everything, using various instructional videos such as the complimentary Eason ones.
I am improving and notice quite a difference already from when I started. I've wanted to play the erhu for about a decade, so I will definitely not lose interest! I care far too much about this, and am educating myself as much as possible to prevent developing bad habits. It's not ideal, I know, but it's what I can do presently.

if I not wrong Bamboo Grove selling Eco Erhu are from Ecoerhu.com. But Eason is not, not quite sure where it get from. But what I think is synethic skin is still lack of sweet and mellow sound compare the real ones.

I bought an eco erhu solely to take with me whilst working in Greece. There was also a fear that my erhu would have been confiscated by customs, damaged during transit or by one of my colleagues. There was no way I was going to risk bringing my HHR Ming Qing aged rosewood along.

Eugene, eco erhu and bamboo grove are the same company.
I'm ethically opposed to using snakeskin, so synthetic is my only option. Still, with high quality wood and an experienced player, they sound very beautiful to me.

Oh that I didn't know, I only noticed that they are selling the same model eco erhu. Yes a lot depending on the skill and maybe just 20% on the erhu.

Have a quick question on passing custom bring a eco erhu.
We all know the eco erhu uses syntatic skin but have anyone encounter custom giving us trouble? It still looks like snake skin and some custom officer may find fault with us. Personally, have encounter custom officers in Australia finding faults with me when I entered Australia once (not on erhu issues though, he kept on questioning me if I have drugs and talk sacarsticly to me). Also, Australia is very strict with wood too. Even if they are convinced the skin is ok, they might claim that the wood is problematic. Anyone with experience with Australian / New Zealand customs? Thanks!

Just put in an order of an eco erhu www.ecoerhu.com/Erquan-Erhu-p/ht8eq.htmRequested customisation on a few sections Really looking forward to getting it. Wonder how to convert from erhu to erquan erhu to zhonghu. Will post pictures after getting it!

There no need to convert. You will just need to buy the correct string and tune it. Eg if u want erquan, just buy the erquan GD string and tune to GD. same go with zhonghu. Do share with us. I also think of getting one.

Oh, I see, thanks for information. If so, can we do it for all erhu? Change an erhu into erquan erhu or zhonghu just by changing the strings? Maybe not for Zhonghu as the sound box is bigger. They told me that my order's sound box is slightly bigger than normal erhu, so can get close to zhonghu sound. Just have to wait for actual product to come to play around with it.
Bamboo Grove's service has been great. They responded to my questions fast and precise. They are also very patient with me for my numourous request for customisation. Highly recommended for their service!

you can use erquan GD string on a normal erhu by tune it to GD. But of course the sound will not be the same as a real erquan erhu. As you might know there are only a handful of erquan song so not many people will invest in a good erquan erhu. Which can be quite expensive as well. So instead of getting a cheap erquan erhu which might still cost 300-400, I would rather get erquan GD string on a normal erhu.
Yes their service are great and they are very knowledgeable as well. I did contacted them about getting this 3 in 1 erhu and currently I still considering whether to buy it or not. Maybe once you get it you can share with us the sound of this erhu.

Had the skin graphic custom to what I want and the pole to be of different design. Wanted to ask for customisation for the sound window but they said its too difficult unless there are another 999 order for the design I want. Also requested for the maker's name/stamp to be included plus the date of production engraved on the erhu. They kept describing that my erhu is going to be "majestic". I hope so too. Can't wait but expect to take more than a month for them to get everything according to my specifications.

Got my 3 in 1 eco erhu yesterday! Here are some pictures drive.google.com/open?id=0BxbNKF8Cx9CFWVlrSXRMaVlIU0kdrive.google.com/open?id=0BxbNKF8Cx9CFTlBzT1QybUR4TUUdrive.google.com/open?id=0BxbNKF8Cx9CFaFc0czNER2Uzc0kdrive.google.com/open?id=0BxbNKF8Cx9CFUG5aUHlqc3l5QXMdrive.google.com/open?id=0BxbNKF8Cx9CFNXlmT1ZyVnZsRVkdrive.google.com/open?id=0BxbNKF8Cx9CFWHl1YUpxQkRicnMAs you can see, I had the skin, pole, and sound box window customed with dragon theme. Also requested the date of manufacture and maker's name engraved. Took sometime setting up as this is the first time I bought a brand new unsetupped erhu . Able to move the bridge to the middle of the 2 dragons so as not to cover the pictures. The inner string get loose when tune tighter but thanks to eason's youtube tutorial on how to tighten with chalk power, had that fixed for the time being. Tuned to DA to play as normal erhu. This is my first time trying eco erhu. Definitely not the same as normal erhu. Sound more like violin and does not have the longer "echo" sound. Maybe it will change when played more like other new regular erhu? Erquan strings are provided but still have not tried them on yet. No Zhonghu strings though. Maybe use the same erhu strings? Just tune to lower pitch? All in all, very satisfied with Bamboo Grove/eco erhu/ orientalmusic.org service. My request for the dragon window was after I placed order. They went the extra mile to make it happen even when it was hard for them to do so. They also sell some regular erhu and other chinese musical instruments on their orientalmusic.org site. Will consider buying from them since I had a good experience. They seems to be honest and you can find lots infor on the materials and instruments. Will be writing them asking for advices on maintainance and etc.

Congratulations on your new erhu! As for the strings, you can tune to D/A or C/G with the standard strings, and G/D with the Erquan strings. You should not need zhonghu strings. They would be redundant since you have the Erquan strings.
Best wishes,
David
