The new format has prompted me to put forward an idea that has been with me a long time.
I suggest that the home page of the forum could be simplified, and that this might attract new members.
We could reduce the number of home page threads. Many of these are never used, for instance Matriculation has had no new entries since 2006.
We need only three threads on the home page outside those of the "Faculty of music" where the main business of the forum takes place. I suggest replacing all these threads with the following three:
"Official business" "Announcements - events, performances etc" "General chat related to East Asian music and culture"
Also I wonder if the university theme is a bit outdated now - who outside of Oxford or Cambridge knows the meaning of the word "Proctor", for instance?

It would be nice if some people read the rules and regulations before they posted. Blatant advertising or invitations to join other forums before they've even contributed to this one, annoys me.

The creator of this forum is Charlie, who now spends more of his time on the guqin page on Facebook. I serve here at his pleasure. My role is to keep an eye out so things don't get out-of-hand. For the most part that means deleting spam. I also try to make sure that every post from a new member gets a reply, even if I don't have much to contribute. Fortunately, it has been a long time since I have had to step in and ask people to play nicely. I really hate to be the "heavy".
I am not much inclined to change the structure of the forum, but I can pass on the suggestions to Charlie.
Best wishes,
David

Dear Davidmdahl
You are too modest. You do a lot more on this forum than you admit to - it is your contribution that gives it life. On my own behalf, and I think perhaps on the behalf of many others, I should like to congratulate and thank you.
