Looks like Wang Leehom (aka Alexander Wang) will be performing at The O2 in London on April 15. True, he's musically talented, served as a conductor for an orchestra in Hong Kong, and even went to the Berkelee College of Music, but I've been very offended that he called a certain style of music that he created as "chinked out." Frankly, I'm not a fan of his music at all, but that's my taste.

Well, if you do visit your local Chinatown, you'll see plenty of flyers posted on the wall about him. He claims that "Then, I coined the term chinked-out. Derived from the historically derogatory racial slur chink, used to put-down Chinese people, chinked-out reclaims the word, turns its negative connotations upside-down, and uses them as material to fuel the new sound of this music. The term describes an effort to create a sound that is international, and at the same time, Chinese."
But I don't buy that argument. When I was waiting for the showing of Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre, I was so tempted to pull down all of his flyers between the W Hotel London and Shaftesbury Ave. (Funny that I found so many French school children entering to watch Les Miserables especially when all the actors had obvious British accents. Ended up standing at the special standing aisle for about 11 GBP.
