Hi everyone. I've decided to cross-post this with the Events section, so apologies if needed. In a little less than a month I'm putting on a program of Chinese and European music on lute and qin. I'll be playing Ling Zhong Yi, Qiu Feng Ci, Jiu Kuang (surprise!), Liang Xiao Yin, Xiang Fei Yuan, and Yang Guan San Die (surprise again!) on qin. I'm wondering if anyone here can identify a composer of any of these pieces. I know this might be convoluted, and in some ways foreign to the Chinese tradition, but I hope not to perpetuate what seems to me a stereotype and list all of the Chinese pieces as "traditional." If they are, so be it, but I know I'm hampered in this by my inability to read Chinese, and I imagine something might be known. I'll need the information soon to get it into the program listing. Anyway, thanks, and keep playing, K.

Some of those pieces are 'attributed' to certain historical figures but by any chance they were not composed by said person. Best you can do is cite the source of the score used.

There are a few original guqin tunes by Jim Binkley on Youtube. Search there for binkley guqin.
Best wishes,
David

Isn't it that some pieces have been "reconstructed", perhaps they could be said to be newly semi-composed. Apart from Li Siang Ting (forgot how to spell) is there any other other know modern composers of new guqin music? Where to hear it? That'll be Li Xiangting. I had one group lesson with him a few months back. I was only learning to pluck open strings with the first finger. He also did a concert including one improvised piece based on a subject given by the audience.

I have a few of those improvised CDs. I gotta say I think most of those tunes are very nice and some nicer than the old classics.
