Hi! I want to buy some accessories online and thought I may as well buy dimo in bulk. However, I think I read somewhere that they don't keep for very long. How do you store your dimo, and how long is their shelf life?

I recently asked Sung Wah at Eason about dizi membrane shelf-life, and if I remember correctly, it is about a year. Most of my membrane has been sitting around for at least several years, so I guess an order for fresher membrane is due.
Best wishes,
David

In China some makers tell clients to put dimo in freezer to keep it fresh. I will try that when I get the next order.

Hi everyone! Thank you for the replies.
David- do you notice any difference in quality of your years-old dimo? I had some 百花 baihua brand dimo that I suspected was old as it was yellow and spotty. As a beginner, I can't tell the difference in the sound quality, but it was definitely more fragile to handle and easily ripped.
Flolei- that's an interesting tidbit. That is something to try if I end up buying in bulk.

At the very beginning I bought a load of student grade dimo. I must have used only a packet before switching to professional grade ones. The professional grade ones that are commonly available on the internet are a bit of hit and miss. Now a dizi playing friend gets me some from Hong Kong every time he goes back.
The best dimo are very thin and the tone produced is clearer and sharper.

I wasn't aware there were different grades.
Thanks for the info!
